What papers to show when there is control?
Saturday, February 27, 2010

Bonjour!
I browse to a website and saw this comedy cartoon.
VOS PAPIERS!! ( Your papers!!)
I went to
french public service website about the laws regarding it.
If you know french, read it in the links, if not, I try my best to translate it here.
(What to show when there's control of identity.
Note that only the french national police, the gendarmerie(the army) or the douanes(the immigration police)
have the legal rights to ask your papers when there's control.
Mostly, controls are made 20kms away from borders (area of another country)highways,
international trains, bus, bus stations, airports, international highways 20kms away from the toll gates...
This is your rights to know when in France.
You may present;
a passport, even expired months to two years,
driver's liscence
family book
military book
birth certificate with complète relation,
voter's id,
sss card
monthly transportation card,
proffesional id
If the document does not have a photo, the person accompany you, will show and attest that the document presented is yours.
What if I dont bring any document with me?
If no documents presented, call someone to bring your documents or, you will be brought to the Police Station for verification.
Maximum four hours of staying with the Verification Station.
If you are a minor, your mother, or father, or guardian must be notified and assist the verification.
To take printed numerical photos, will be made only if approved by the judge or by the district attorney.
Th verification of identity must be done in place of statement(holdingup)
The person can refuse to sign it(ticket violations for example)
He can ask for a personal copy .
But the thing is, in some circumstances,in my own opinion, you cannot do anything if there's control even if you dont do any crime. Better be submissive and go along with it and see how it goes.
Mostly, french police do not smile, but they are polite.
I met a few of them everywhere.
My experiences;
Twice Michel and I were checked with "VOS PAPIERS" (please,). Anjo too.
1.We were entering a toll gate from the airport. The police checked our papers and Michel's alcohol intake . Good he didnt drink beer offered by the airline. We were let off.
2. When we entered Monaco, (it is not France territory)they checked our papers and when we showed it to them, they let us go.
3. Anjo went to Vintimille, Italy to look around. He finished his tour and went back to the train station to take a train to France. Two Italian Immigration asked his papers. He sometimes do not bring it with him, (not used to have it with him). But this time he was lucky, he got it.
Kundi, baka matulog siya sa police station, lol
Marghie do not have that experience . I told her, your huge shades

keeps them off !
