OFWs, It pays to be honest

Bonjour!
My Official entry for PINOY EXPATS BLOG AWARDS 2009! Eskayted po ako!
TITLE: OFWs, IT PAYS TO BE HONEST

Being considered trustworthy is something to be proud of. Increasingly, though, dishonesty is regarded as necessary in order to survive in modern society. How do you feel about it? Is honesty worth cultivating? What is your standard for deciding what is honest behavior and what is not?
Working as a house employee of a rich employer at times is very risky. One item when gone (out of sight) the helper is the suspect. The rich Madame would say: I will call the police.
Employers, when they panicked, always in exaggerated mood, mama mia!
I answered: " Yes, if there is really a need, we must call the Police!
I do not hide anything, and do not hide what I am..MADAME !
(i was annoyed with eyes rolling yan ha?°
"
(And please take note, I didnt say defensively: "I didnt steal anything"... Babaw nun!)
That was when I was with my long time employer not the one I work now.
She shut up. Eventually, I found her lost earings under her bed, she was drunk the previous night and dropped them in the floor, kicked it off under her bed.
Good I didnt vacuum the floor yet!
I left thàt employer eventuàlly .Loko siya, she was a menace! What else would she accuse me of? I resigned before it get worse!
Anyways...
In many countries, people misrepresent themselves to gain advantages in life. They obtain fraudulent documents, diplomas, and identity papers to enter a country illegally or to get a job or a position for which they are not qualified. Some parents falsify their children’s birth certificates so that the children can get more àdvàntàges. Some would fixed marriage certificates.
Some were let off, but sometimes the payback is later and harder to take .Nasty people who knows their secrets, blackmailed them.
YEAR 2002, I was then still in courtship with my now husband, one filipina said to me:
"Than going for an annulment of your marriage in Phils,(with my ex) it will costs you a lot of money and time, still you wont get it, why not get a single passport at Philippine Embassy and get married here in France?"
Immediately, I said no thank you, not even saying: I will think about it, but firmly with difinition, I said, No thank you.
(She can keep her poisonous advice, I know what I wanted and will get it)
Last 2003, Michel and I asked the France cityhall what can be done for us to get married (as I was still having impediment isuues in Phils(anulment not granted yet) The cityhall employee told us to go Pacsed.
We said no. Pacs is a union between heterosexual or same sex couple, a binding legàl union, valid only in France but not in Philippines, so we politely said: "No Thank You.".
If I do that, I would pay dearly. I cannot petition my children to live with me in France. Presenting my self as single to French govt, is a form of lying, on top, denying to them my three minor children in Philippines. How can i petition them if they dont exists in my future french residency records?
I waited until my annulment of marriage was granted. The rest was history. My minor age children ANJO AND MARGHIE are now with me in France.

Then the daily temptations àt work...
The 30pcs of five hundred euros (30K PHP eàch)left in the bed while my employer flew to New York.
The jewelries of my Madame, she just sling anywhere inside the house;
The keys of her apartment she entrusted me.
The house she would let me stay àlone for a week with her pets.
Some phonecalls telling me NOT to tell Madame about somethings.
I did tell my employer and she deals with it, I m not keeping it to my self, noh!
Honesty, or the lack of it, influences how we are viewed by others. If people learn that we have deceived them even once, we will lose their trust, and that is not easily regained.
If, on the other hand, we are truthful and honest, we will build a reputation as a person of integrity, worthy of trust.
Thats why I still have my present work despite the crisis.
Being honest gains good compensations bonus(es) and special priviledges.
It pays to be honest.
In life ,in work, in blogs.
We will gain many friends too. Blog Readers are sharp, they know if the author pretend to be for what he or she is not.
Careful...
Our motive for being honest is not to receive praise from fellow humans. We are honest because we wanted to be respected, keep our work (to pay our bills) be a good example ànd a pride of our Family, Nation and to our God.
Especially to our God who SHOWERS us with wonderful blessings.
I encourage all OFWs to do the same. They can say what they want about us working abroad, but our actions speaks louder than their criticisms.

True, trust is a must in any relationship, may it be between an employer and employee or husband and wife. And to gain it one should also embrace its companion, honesty.
Sadly, in the Philippines, its not the best of policy. See how media make some issue when somebody return something valuable? It's news because its a rarity.

Being honest takes a lot of courage and sometimes it depends to the situation.
Titz, sometimes your madame asked you " do you know how to cook this and that?" and you did answer her "Non madame" but honestly you knew it. Bon, it's a little "white lies" but dishonesty pa rin right?. But whatever it is I know your intention is not bad. You have your reasons.
So I was thinking we can't be HONEST all the time...it is impossible. In my own personal point of view, we need to be dishonest especially if the situation calls us.

You and your work reflect the good side of being a Pinoy -- maaasahan kahit saan. That's why I'm very proud of my kabayans abroad. Of you.
May dedikasyon sa trabaho. May quality of work. May puso sa ginagawa.
Good luck po sa PEBA.

Kudos to you Ate Francesca. Hope you win the award. I'm supporting you all the way. Bonne Chance :) !
me nag YM s akin, alisin ko na lng dw yung pic na naka maid uniform ako. Kasi Madame daw ako tingnan, tapos me photo na naka maid uniform.
Sige na nga. Di ko naman kc pansin na ganun yun, hehe.
Saka naka uniform ako lagi when inside, to protect my "expensive" clothes, ahihihihihi.
Pero korek, alisin ko na.
When I look a Madame daw , I should flaunt it, hihihihi

It is truly inspiring story!
