How to acquire French Citizenship

Saturday, December 06, 2008
Last week, I went to Tribunal de Nice to file my application for french citizenship.
I was with husband Michel, we passed it thru a Guichet(counter) and the man checked all documents;

1. 2 Birth Certificates (in Malacanang Phils, red ribbon and translated to french language).
2. Casier Judiciare (NBI) (in Malacanang Phils, red ribbon and also translated to french language).
3.Our Marriage Contract requested from Nantes(French National Statistic Office)
4.My husband's updated Birth Certificate, card national identity
5.Livret de Famille.
6.My passport copy and carte resident.
7.Our proof of address (electric bill under both names)
8.Attestation sur L'honneur that we are still married together(no pending divorce).

and the man told my husband, Monsieur, you are not french. You were born in Monaco and you are not french.Do you have a proof that you were born in France?

Dear,I smell trouble!!!!

Husband said: Are my passport and carte identity national not enough?
-No.
Michel digged more papers and later showed a court order that he was born in Monaco by his French mother signed and attested by two neighbors in Beausoleil, France.

-Voila, (the man said), without this court order, your wife cannot be french if you, the husband is NOT french.
Ganun?
-As your documents are complete, you will be both have a convocation (interview) within two to six months from now.

Thats it, it took ten minutes at the most to file it.
We saved our neck with that court order that Michel is French, whew!

I will keep an update whats next.
I think I will pass the interviews, even not in its best grammar...

Wish me luck.

Wow! Nice and good blog. Its not everytime that a Pinay gets French citizenship. Good luck and best wishes.

From the:
#2 Top Pinoy Blog
i know a french guy married to a malaysian who had a lot of trouble getting french citizenship for his children who were born in malaysia. he had to show his birth certificate, his parents' birth certificate, all sorts of other documents from the mayor of his hometown, etc. etc.

how long does the processing/waiting time normally take?
sleep,it depends on where he filed.

There are cityhalls that are loaded of application and some that are not.

hope in two months, i will have ;y convocation.
And march 24, 3months and 18 days after I filed i got my convocation with the judge. Got o review my french language. CIAO!
Hey Francesca

Did you guys have to prove that you were living under the same roof for 3 years? Am American and my wife is french, but because of the nature of my work we will be away from each other for nearly 2 years(apart from visiting each other), do you know if it affects my future application for a french nationality? we got married jan this year...thanks
The requirements needs four years of marriage without seperation. And there is an attestation d'honnuer (a dossier called certification of honor) that both will sign that they live together.
If you both are not together because of the Nature of Work, they add one year more before they accept your application. I read it in the rules on applying.

It is not your fault if you work like that, the authorities will look into the situation.Just to be honest to them and they also ask you your work anyway.

All they need to know is that the marriage is genuine, and you dont use your wife's status for fraudulent reasons.

All the best
