In English, Personal Dignity.
Not bad translation isnt it, hehe.
I'll tell you a few stories about the french how they behave on their daily lives.
My Husband Michel. He is french, born in Monaco Montecarlo, but never a Monegasque(meaning Monaco tribe) because he cannot afford to be one.
To be a Monegasque, one must be born in Monaco and keep an address there for the rest of his life. And pay taxes, because of being french...
So expensive, just to be included in the tribe.
But he still say to people when he's asked what is his nationality?
"Im french but there's no glory in it..."
If he is an Igorot, he would say the same.
"I am an Igorot, but there's no glory in it."
Thats how he feels. And no one should teach him what he should do or must feel.
He feels he is entitled to say what he feels, regardless if it is acceptable or not.
He is french. The french believes they are always right.
And they can prove it.
Im from Bacolod.
I dont feel any glory in it also.
I am what I am. Pinay, soon to be french,hopefully... but still I dont feel any glory in it.
What ever I will be one day,(double nationality or not) Im greatful to have it, but I will never feel the glory in it.
I never liked the "glory me".
I prefer money...Hehe
Anyway, year 2005,Michel and I were in Boracay, went out for a walk at 8am to take some fresh sea air.We're dressed in casual shorts , slippers and chemise.We decided to extend our stay in Boracay , Michel asked the owner of the apartment for an appointment at 10:00 am;
The owner said yes.
At ten am, Michel dressed in slacks and a long sleeve chemise sans cravat (polo shirt without a tie) and a leather shoes, went down from our room and he discussed our extension of stay and it was agreed. Then he went up again to the room to change into casual shorts, slippers and tshirt.
The lady whispered to me: He changed clothes just to discuss with me? Im even on my house dress!!!
I said to her: Them french are always carefull on how they present themselves to people.
Its for them, not for you.
Personal Dignity...
I was working the silvers yesterday and Butler was cleaning the Mini Car when a neighbor and her dog arrived on our front door. She asked Butler for the Boss.
-He is inside, do you have an appointment?
-No, but he might want to see my dog, because once, he patted my dog and gave a dog scarf.
-But he didnt tell me, you are coming Madame.
-Maybe you can ask, I'll wait here.
Butler knocked the Boss' room.
-Monsiuer, there's a lady wanted to see you.
-WHAT LADY????
-Your neighbor, the one with the dog.
-But NOOOO, I can not see her now! Im on my bathrobe. Did you tell her Im here?
-Yes.
-Why did you tell her Im here?
-Because you are here, I dont lie.
-Tell her I will call her later...
-Ok.
Thats personal dignity at stake again, lol.
How can a Boss see a lady in his just wake-up-look,hair all over the place, in a bathrobe?
Even to me, he never did , until its 11 am,in his best suit, the time to go out of the house.
In Philippines, okey lang yan. Pasok. May pakape ka pa or Coca. Gusto mo, lunch until dinner na, or... dito ka na kaya tumira????
Sans appointment yan ha...
My niece gave Marghie a two hours work in Monaco to arrange a studio of a young man of 30 years old.He is single. Two hours work(clean, arrange, iron) for 24€(1500pesos).
The young man knew they're coming at 9am.They knocked, he open the door, and was shocked. He didnt expect Marghie and her cousin smiling, said: Bonjour. He thought its just his girlfriend.
He was still in his mousse de rassage(shaving cream) haha.
He was soooo ashamed, said sorry, in panic, slammed the door and reopen it.
The two were laughing. Why?
With a true french ,elegance is VERY important, his personal dignity(or respect) is at stake. He was caught in his "natural state".
And he didnt like himself seen in it...
My Madame.
Once I entered her room, the door was open so I took liberty, and also she's not inside.
She told me off when she saw me.
"Im not finish yet. Now you see my mess! Please come back later."
Mano naman, we are both girls????Di ba?
No, she didnt want me to see how messy she was in her room.
A few minutes later, her room is as tidy as it was used to be.
Her underwear, she handwashed it herself, and gave it to me to dry , her trash bin empty and the bag , tightly closed. She didnt want me to see whats inside.
No clutters, shoes back to shelves, dresses in closets, even her pajamas were nicely folded.
I wondered what for she hired me????
Once, Anjo ordered in KFC.
- Miss, one menu please, coca, frites, and sundae...
The girl just smiled at him...
Anjo repeated what he said, slowly, in french, in case the girl didnt understand him.
Again the girl just smiled.
Marghie told him: "Oy, say Bonjour before ordering, ano ka ba?"
-Oh sorry...Mademoiselle, Bonjour, Je voudrais .....
The girl laughed and said: "VOila, if you say Bonjour, you will have your order..."
Opo, ganyan po dito....
Kalupit ano?
Thats France. I learned a lot from them.
From my life in bundok ng Hibok Hibok ,now to France...
I learned.
Not fast, but Im learning...
Its about time you see...
After the issue I've been through, the Igorot Slur daw...
Honestly, it would be hypocritical on my part to say, I was not affected.
It did .
Its not because of pride that I dont want to apologize.
Its because I didnt like the way it happened.
I never bow down to blackmails.
I didnt like the motivation behind it too.
Meanwhile, the one who started the fire is behind his PC screen still laughing at the outcome...Still pulling more strings here and there...inticing others to join too.
While hiding as anonymous...
Fantastic... Isnt it great?

hello ate amy...bonjour!!! great post! little by little i know more and more about how the french are...kudos to you.
about that "igorot" issue... i didn't catched that either.
i just read it thru the chat box...
honestly, i didn't liked what was written in the chat box... some people there were nasty.... wag mo nalang patulan ate.
there it is again...the typical filipino crab mentality....trying to pull someone down... wag kang papayag ate.
and yes you are right... some there are hiding... using anonymous names... takot magpakilala... kasi kung matapang sila, they won't hide.
anyway, just do what you do best and keep it up because you're doing great....

Hi Amy, I am somewhat of a francophile, and this is the kind of information I would love to read , about slices of life in France, a bird's eye view of someone who lives the french life, but hails from back here.I had to go over a few entries though to understand all about the Igorot issue. Needless to say, I am an Ilongga like you, also from Bacolod, and I have enjoyed reading your posts for several years now. I love how you seem to rise up to every difficult situation in a foreign land and see the funnier side of it. You seem to be self-deprecating, but also you to stand up for what you believe in. In spite of the non-perfect english, I could relate to you completely and find your take on things very refreshing and real. In other words, you mince no words, you say what you feel, minus the grammatical frills. On that BIR rant, somehow I understand the gist of your humor when you tried to reference the clueless BIR employee to an Igorot. I would have probably used the same word, in stride, if only to express my brunt that very moment, without really meaning to disgrace anyone, especially the Igorot tribe. It is very Ilongga to say things like that, but it would be quite futile to explain it to other people who do not understand our brand of humor. Like we say we are not Bisaya, but Ilonggos. It is a very elementary The fact though that you have evolved to be a popular blogger, well it can't be helped that you are open to both praises and criticisms. It's good that you take everything with a grain of salt. It can't be all that bad I know, people are just overly touchy and seem to blow things out or proportion, and I hope they will move on and forget that infinitesimal glitch. I hope you don't change, and continue to be as humorous and strong...
I enjoyed reading this post.
I also didn't notice the Igorot bit but I think I know what it's all about.
All I can say is that there are idiots and there are cowards. And I think your detractor is both.

buti at na kick out mo na yung 'anonymous na gago' keep posting titz andito kami kasi alam namin matalino ka at matapang na babae. We LOVE you!
I think I would do the same too. It's not hard to say sorry actually, pero kung ganun ang kinalabasan, pano ka pa magso-sorry. But I know deep in your heart that you are sorry. Tao lang tayo and we get hurt also. ang nangyari kasi naging "a tooth for a tooth". You can differentiate people by the comments they make. Some are learned, and sad to say majority was not. Mas masahol pa ang ginawa ng iba. You can get your point across more sans nasty comments. Yung tipong hindi nang-gegyera ang dating. They could have known how sincere you were. tao lang, lahat nagkakamali. Pede naman pagsabihan sa mahinahon na tono, effective pa. Yun lang.
I didn’t read your Igorot post but quickly understood what the commotion was all about since when I last visited your site, the blog owner that spread your Igorot phrase posted the link in your chatbox. Ha-ha just timing I saw it.
Well, it’s very sad when people resort to flaming, blackmailing, and stalking just because you have a different opinion, you did not agree or belong, you are critical, you criticized a group of people – in fact you did not really criticize at all, you just use a not-so-constructive reference about them, albeit casually, lightly. But a lot of people have emotions in place of their brains. They can’t think logically, they are blinded with passion. Easily hurt, they take things personal to the point of being irrational, being stupid, and being hypocrites. Double standards! The I-am-the-victim-mentality, the pointing of fingers, the I-have-to-be-redeemed, I-must-revenge! I truly truly hate.
I mean if people say Filipinos are stupid or Cebuanas are ugly, do I really care? NO, because I am confident on what I believe more than what any Tom, Dick, Harry and Juan dela Cruz will say. Should we now really be easily swayed by Google’s search engine? If the results of Google are all negative, what does that say? Shouldn’t we then address the root cause and not cover them up with flowery larger-than-life blog entries (like that Filipina-Googling cause for example). If we have half a brain we just don’t believe what people say. And for those that do then I know well to steer clear away from them.
Ignore these time wasters Amy. Ignore these pettiness and narrow minded insults. Move on. Clean and moderate your blog. Delete the chatbox temporarily if you must. Don't waste your energy in this as this will just make you bitter. Life is too short to spend on something so trivial than this. You don't even have to explain and give these people airtime. You are larger than this.
If these Igorots are true to who and what they are, then they are making a very lame example of themselves. They should be ashamed of themselves and whatever their cause is as I and everyone else are now confused with the hatred they sow which they will for sure reap them hatred now or later. How ironic.

I totally agree with DP-well said.
You know, I'm half Kapampangan and half Ilokana. They said that Kapampangans are mayabang and Ilokanos are kuripot. It doesn't bother me a bit and you won't see me jumping up and down and getting all nasty about it. I know who I am and I won’t get all emotional because of some stereotypes assumptions, and prejudices.
I just don’t agree when you attack Francesca’s family, her grammar and her job because you disagree with her. At least she’s not stealing and it is a decent job.
Your actions speak volumes about you when you get all ugly because you don’t like what she wrote.
Maryann

Oh I thought "that" incident has been forgotten already. But it seems people can't get enough of it. I just hope, there was a lesson learned in all this.
Anyway, I like this post. Filipinos are totally different in that aspect. Sabi mo nga may kape at coke pa..hehe.

Oh no! You touched the Igorot word again Ate Amy!
As a whole I take your post as a positive one in trying to elaborate on the topic. You are still defiant in making a public apology because of personal dignity? I don't know how they are trying to blackmail you to give an apology, I don't agree with blackmail.
It's easier on the heart to accept one's fault to say I was wrong, I'm sorry. We all commit mistakes and we should learn from it so we don't do it again.ci

to dp anonymous, careful careful. you are turning out to be flowery and emotional as well. please don't assume that all the bad posters were igorots. they seem to come from everywhere.
even francesca agrees that some, if not most igorot comments were well taken. thats why she made an effort to emphasize she didn't mean any harm with her comments.
like you, i don't agree with the personal attacks and insults traded in this blog. i am glad that they have been removed. but, i hope this blog will not become a medium of posting anti-igorot sentiments. i'm sure francesca will not allow this to happen.
to maryann who made the comment on "kapampangans being mayabang and ilokanos are kuripot". good for you not to feel offended. i wouldn't too coz these are endearing traits. but again, it's different from being branded as backward and ignorant.
lets all learn the lessons here and move on. more butler stories please. cheerios!

bilib ako sa memory mo francesca. it's good to know one trait of french people. i agree though that we have to be presentable at all times because how we dress says a lot about ourselves.
To Wow Philippines:
I disagree with you that being mayabang(boastful) and kuripot which is sometimes interpreted as stingy is an endearing traits.

To Wow Philippines,
These are the meaning of the 2 words that according to you are endearing traits. I beg to disagree.
Mayabang-boastful adj. speaking too highly about oneself: hambog, palalo, mahangin etc...
Taken from a TAGALOG DICTIONARY.
Kuripot-stingy adj. maramot

Hello Amy,
Yes, just in time. Some people will always be envious & jealous of others and would do their best to bring you down, if they can. Schadenfreude ba?
Anyway I read your blog to enjoy myself so I just roll my eyes on dramas. We could never please everyone and some will find any reason not to be pleased.
So just keep on writing what you want and if you so happen to unintentionally write any remarks which are taken the wrong way by others, well then they are free to not read your blog anymore, isn't it?
How about more of those Butler stories? You can consider me a "fan." 8-)

So just keep on writing what you want and if you so happen to unintentionally write any remarks which are taken the wrong way by others, well then they are free to not read your blog anymore, isn't it?
How about more of those Butler stories? You can consider me a "fan." 8-)
Nobody in real life told me I am emotional, only this online poster called Wow Philippines.
I think you are confusing meanings with words.
And I am not anonymous in this blog. The owner of this blog (and a few people that post here) knows me.
Anyway, let's move on, shall we?
Amy... re: football, sorry talo kayo tonight - 4:1!!!!! You guys in France should stop calling us Pay-Bas kasi kayo na na-Pays-Bas ngayon lol. Hope France can redeem themselves with the battle with the title holder Italy (that Holland also Pay-Bas'd with 3:0!). Redeem the French pride! lol

DP, oo nga, france lost to holland last night.
I think France should play petanque( marbles) instead, haha.
PAYS BAS is french word for low country and the game was held in Switzerland, its a french speaking country also.
I dont agree also with the Pays bas.ka murder naman, i like your country to be called Holland.
meanwhile, Michel will have a whole day bending his head down bowing to everyone saying:
once again, I dont feel any glory to my country, I am excusing myself for the shame at the result of the match last night...
drama, lol
ok, we must move on. Everyone would love to do the same...i think

"He is french. The french believes they are always right"
I begged to disagree this kind belief... only intellectual arrogant claims to be always right...
My husband is also a French... but the most hated person for him are those people ( regardless of race / origin ) who always proclaims and glorified themselves to be right even they are wrong.
In life , no matter how many times we fall -apart , what matters mosts is how to take effort to stand and rectify the reasons of such Fall.
Peace!

Anonymous,I learned another french motto that says:
...You do what you like. Its not my business...
meaning, the french cannot be busybodies. They love football, its more enjoyable that minding what others think or do.
(or disagree about igorots)

Kasi po, if one doesnt dress properly to the occasion,IF pasok ng restoran, ilalagay ka sa table na malapit sa cr, or sa malapit sa entrance door, or sa exit ng mga food na panay labas masok ng mga servers.
No peace moment when you eat, naka maong shorts ka kasi eh.
Dapat naka coat and tie...hihihi.
Para ilagay ka sa vip area.

By the way, I didn't catch the Igorot reference. Did I miss that post? Was it a nasty comment by an anonymous poster?
