They are very interesting read about domestic helpers. I recommend you, my readers to read the topics.
Here's my views :
The society in general regard domestic helpers as "Low Class Workers".
Some of these domestic helpers are valued by their employers differently.
If a domestic helper is good, the employers are afraid to lose them.
If they are intelligent enough to recognize the fact, of course.
They would upgrade their salary and benefits.
They would respect their rights of vacation and day offs.
They dont overwork them till midnight.
They eat with them in restaurants, with the kids.
They introduce them to their guests as:
This is my house keeper/lady accompany and she is the best!
Because it is difficult for them to find a good one.
There are lots every where, but not the quality worker they need.
What makes a good employee?
Skills, experience and attitude,( honesty ,flair, discretion, respect toward the Boss but also to themself)
The problem with a lot of workers, they dont know how to behave or speak properly.
With the Boss or between themselves.
How your brain(or lets say--> personality) works is your value.
And if one is inexperienced, brains can be trained.
In my experienced here in Monaco, a lot of filipinas, with university degrees, (nurses, lawyers, teachers) trained themselves to be a house employee and they includes (its a must)> humility.
Eventually, they are earning buckets( a bit exag, mind you) of euros out of that work monthly.
Is it true that we can have the best work if got good connections?
It helps, but depends if that is what we really look for in a job.
Some would take the first offer, some would scout for better positions and salary.
Is the salary rate good enough(or best)?
Are the working conditions good?
Are the working hours acceptable?
I can take a work earning 4000€/month, but if it takes my skin off,(working day and night) they can keep their offer. If it is a 9-5 work, legal work, with that salary, Yeheey, its a jackpot , lol!
But to balance the discussion, some would take it,despite having bad working condition, not because they dont have the brain, but because they dont have much choice. Meaning, out of desperation to solve all financial problems on the quick is their priority.
I met a filipina and she told me, she was earning 700€ (50,000pesos)as a Cashier in Portugal. She arrived in France, she was offered 1500€(100,000pesos) as a house employee. Then she realized, the salary here is good, but the cost of living goes with it.
Oh yeah. Thats tough!
She is still here, in France, "enjoying" the high cost of living, lol
As a domestic helper/house employee/maitre de la maison/Butler, yaya, secretary, doctor, lawyer, sellers, stewardess ,street cleaners, janitors, every work has its value.
If some despise the work in the house, what happens to this world if everyone works the same?
Imagine if there's no street cleaners?
Imagine if there's no yayas, no maids when you need one and can afford one?
Imagine those who are rich people but sick and no family to take care of them and there's a filipina willing to do it for a price?
Value of an employee is not only on the position/class/category they are in.
It is the question of: Are if they happy in doing it?
Lastly, those who look down upon a domestic helpers' work, I ask:
Will you feed her family? Sige nga.

Hi Francesca! I am a long-time lurker but it's my first time to post.
I read the article about a few days ago, and people like her are the reason why people leave the Philippines. I would like my family to experience living in Europe and experience what it is really like to be truly equal. The Prime Minister and the lowly beggar have equal rights. If they know what equality is really like, they wouldn't be so matapobre
Nowadays, life in the Philippines is only bearable for the rich. If you're middle class (like me), then good luck.

Sorry, I didn't realize the third link at the top of your post is the same article I am referencing in my comment above.
no one has the right to look down on anyone. Nakakalungkot ang mga ganito pangyayari.
Thanks for sharing your insight, Francesca.
I guess, it all boils down to how much one enjoys what he/she does for a living, for there are employers, I'm sure, who know how to reward good works.

as long as it's honest labor. i don't think a person can really look down on another just because of his/her occupation.
thank you for this article.

arashi-kishu, hi, welcome to my blog! totoo yang equal rights in some EU countries, pero meron pa ring nobles na do not mixed with ordinary people. Excluding the matapobre attitude, but they seperate themselves "subtly", for humanitarian purposes".I like your views, realistic!

Every person chooses a job according to his education, aims and social status.I see nothing bad in being a domestic helper. A person doesn't become better or worse having this job.
minsan nga mas mataas pa sahod ng ganyang trabaho than working in the mall ,sales lady or fast foods eh d ba?kaya nga ako i prefer parttime job cleaning kasi mas mataas pa take home pay ko!
good day and GOD BLESS!

Hi Ate Amy,
Alam mo, ang nanay ko naging cook. Ang tatay ko naging janitor. They both worked together as "lowly" workers but they were able to send us to Catholic schools(nursery to college to med school), send us to college and my sister even is a doctor now. Not only that they were able to invest on land properties. It boggles my mind on how they did it but they did raise 5 children on meager income.
As long as you are happy and pride yourself with your work, life is good right?

Kk, lahat ng work ay may pakinabang. And yun ang importante.
Di ba, too much talaga na?
