Be frugal, save save save!

After the holidays, everyone must be thinking , how to earn more money. I read a book and it says, we have two options. C.B. or M.M.M.
Not bad advice eh? It means, cut back our expenses, or make more money.

In today's France news, euros is higher of 30% in compare to USdollar. Many europeans went to New York to spent holidays there, and shop, as they believe they earn 30% than spending it in Europe. But the airline fare, how much? They have to buy in New York a hundred of Levi's jeans , sell it in europe to take back the cost of their airline tickets.lol

How about say: cut back. So instead of eating outside, cut back the cost by cooking your own curry meal. Curry meal if you eat a home cost you only 3 euros/ person. But if you buy the pan, pot, the spices to make your own curry ala restaurant, you spend more ! Doesnt matter, its still useful the pots and pans, its an investment for future curry. Then besides rigid instruction in a recipe book, the curry is a disaster. Throw it away, how can you eat a too hot spicy curry, it makes your eyes get teary! The curry became costly than a curry meal of 10€ in Indian restaurant, less dishes and pots to wash. And a cut from a sharp knife, lol

We sometimes grab ads like:the sale , we are on sale , last day sale. We are carried by the tag, 70% less. So we buy the stuff (tshirt, jeans, shoes, bags, scarf etc etc) And it says limited stocks! Hurry. We did hurry. Happy to be out of the shop, with lots of shopping items, when at home we realise, the stuff we bought we have it at home, a year ago and still un use because it was out of fashion.

We sometimes see shops offering buy one take one for a lipstick, make up, lingerie. We take it. When we buy the stuff, we realise, the color doesnt suit us. Or we buy two items, we have free bag and a moisturizer. When at home, we realize the moisturizer is awful and the bag is made of poor material good for the bin.waahh!

Some shops offers points. Buy as much as you can, get a 10,000 points to avail a free ticket to go to tahiti, 3 days two nights hotel stay includes. Count how much you bought from that shop, you realize, you already paid in advance your trip because they add their prices up and give you points for it.Some promos has connections to other shops ha.

Or you buy a signatured shirt for example. From 350€ it is a sale to 120€. Not bad. But you dont have enough money in your bank. But then, let the bank suffer, when bf's bday arrives, you still spend 350€ for an item anyway. Might as well buy now, than buy it in six months' birthday of bf.

How about bringing sandwich at work, than spending 10€ lunch? After all you got mayonnaise and cheese in the fridge.Put a bit of lettuce and boiled egg, its already a nice sandwich. It will save you 4€. Lunch time arrives, the sandwich is so soggy and wet, and you have to push it with water just to swallow it.Hehe!

How about: not bringing cash when going out? Hehehe. What if you forgot, you need some nappies for your period. Sure, you use your visa card. Visa card has purchase limit, at least 7€(in France). I would end up grabbing more items to add my nappies, instead of buying only one if I have cash.

Let say, M.M.M (make more money). Ah, there's some tips found at the internet. Work at home.
So you register, paid some fees, not bad, as the company says, they will send you the materials( like making fancy necklaces, just be creative, send it back to the company, they pay you the items. In 100 items made, they pay 3€ each. So in a week if you make 100 thats 300€ a week. Nice. The materials arrived. You realise you cannot make the necklaces. Where do you get the time? In a week you made only three. And the company rejected it, the designs are awful. Bwehehehe!

Here's me. I remembered, Michel and I would argue inside a shop, because I became feverish to buy a coat. Michel said: What will you do to the coats you have in your closet full of it? I didnt listen. I take the coat, went to the cashier, paid my visa card,(ahhh freedom...) and Cashier handed me a nicely wrapped coat in a sleek shopping bag.
Next shop, I went in, Michel grabbed me out, I almost tumbled down, lol and when a frenchman screamed, better behave. All the Ha? ha? ha? will shower you to the full. What will you do with that then ha? Dont you like the ones at home ha? Dont you know the material is same as one in your closet ha? Come on you dont need that ha?

I think to be frugal needs a lot of efforts. And determination. Snob the shop, go to the park, read a book at home instead of taking holidays somewhere. Window shop and suffer. So what if no shopping bag going home?

Kaya nyo yun?
Be frugal.
What did I say? lol

My children's photos,1998 when I left them for France, age Lorraine 11,Margie 9,Anjo 8years old.

After five years, they become Old! haha! Click photo for large size.

Imagine yourself not seeing your own mom or dad , wife or husband for a year(its terrible!),how about for two years, even three years? I never seen my children for the past five I longed to hug them.
Exchanging photos via emails is not enough.
I decided to go home after five years without assurance I could come back to
France
. I went home becase I missed them, and despite (full of dramatics ala Nora Aunor) at the airport when I saw them first time after five years,i didnt mind,Haha!

Many OFWs left (or would leave)their family sacrificing being away re: the homesickness, just to have a brighter future for their family.
It must be heartbreaking years too,for OFWs as we filipinos had been family oriented.
But:
Dollars vs Homesick.
Do we have other choice?

Ps. Photos edited. Too many is too much, lol

My kids at the embassy

Tuesday, December 19, 2006
I got mail!
Madame,
Vous voudrez bien demander à vos enfant de présenter leur demande de
visa long séjour dés que possible. La section visas est ouverte au
public de 8h00 à 12h30 du lundi au vendredi. Je vous confirme la bonne
réception de l'accord de l'ANAEM.
Sincères salutations.
in english:
Madame, you can ask your children to present their application of visa long stay as soon as possible. The visa section is open between 8 am to 12h30 . I am confirming you of the good news from ANAEM.
Yours sincerely,

Upon recieving that, I forward the email to my kids, with a note to fill up the application forms downloaded at embassy website. My daughter said: nGEEH, ma, they are all in french? No english version?
"I sent you a scanned copy of the application form in french, properly filled up, just copy the answers to your french application forms!"
(DONE. Its nice to have a scanner at home, lol)
(I remember a husband and son of a filipina went to the embassy and the french application forms pushed to them to answer, they both scratched their heads murmuring: uhhh, uhhhh, Ma'am, merong tagalog nito? )

Then I instructed daughter to xeroxed copy all documents needed. Birth Certificates, NBI, passports including the red ribbon of malacanang ang dfa, travel consent, my papers in France, etc etc.
Done. Sarap ng may xerox machine sa shop.If they present themselves without the photocopy, the french there would be REALLY annoyed!

Then i told her to prepare what to wear for the embassy,(be presentable no celphone, no bags). Direction how to go to the embassy. Bring her cash card, incase. Bring some candy/biscuit,in case .
We finish discussing at 4am manila time. I asked her if she go to bed now? She said no time. Simbang gabi (morning mass starts in an hour, so I prepare the shop, go to buy bibingka outside for our breakfast, and shake up the two at 6am, leave at 7am (antipolo)for an 8 am meeting at the embassy(makati).
Done. Say bye bye , night night, and put off pc.
It was 11pm France time.I slept with a million euros smile lol!

Next day, I knocked her at her yahoo address.

How's the visa interview?
Inis.(annoyed)
Bakit?(why?)
We went there, but the visa section head had an appointment meeting with someone, so we waited. It was 11 when he met us.He told us to go direct to the visa section window. We asked the guard, the guard told us to enter another door. When at the visa window the frenchman gave us another letter to secure all needed papers to process the visas.I m going to faint, when saw the requiremnts,so was we are hungry and no sleep! I gave him original and xerox copies of the papers plus 6346 pesos. May bayad pala visa nila ma? I thought its free?!

Ah bon? (really?)I paid them 265€ here HA!

Plus they dont speak Tagalog, english and french only!We are in another world!
I paid 6346 pesos Ma,(100€) I was surprised.I scan you the letter of requirements, its says there.

Olaah, thats a lot. What did you do?

I paid, good I brought some. But when I gave to visa officer the cash, he said, times two so total 12,692!(200€)

aie aie aie!

So I told the two, we all go down, find an atm machine to get more cash. The time we went back, the embassy is nearly close and the man said: come back tomorrow! waaah, inis ma, inis! we lost time and money, there's exam at school ,schoolkids are halfday, we got a lot of customers in the shop!

Hahahaha!

And ma, the people in the embassy do not smile at all?!

Ah, because they are french, lol!

Is it like that over there in France?

You will see, hahaha.

So Ma, we will go back tomorrow. Again, grrr!

Ask when is the release of visa.

Ma, pano ako? I am alone this new year.

Eh ano naman,(so what) its a dream come true, wala na ang dalawa dyan(wink).

Ma, pwede ba ako mag Hongkong Disneyland? Merong package tour.Sama ako kina Lilia, yung pinadalhan mo ba ng pera.

He! We ask first the manager(si Lolo).
end of discussion. Say nyo, girls?

Butas na naman bulsa ng Lola at Lolo nyo.Broken wallet. No vacation. I stay at home! Good I got a book sent by marichu (anne rice) ty chu, you are the best!
and from amazon.fr
"a year in the m-rde, devil wears prada, and God save la France.ewan if good read mga ito! I let you know.

I went to the office ,and ask my co employees(7 of them) if there's any christmas party this week.

No news, no good news

Saturday, December 16, 2006
1.French news: EU community will renew all driving liscence in all schengen states. I just got a french issued driving liscence, I didnt even felt it yet to the max, they will change it? Lolo Michel was happy of the news. At last his liscence will be new ,will have his new photo, and laminated , after his 40 years!!! shhh, hinay lang tawa ko, baka marinig, he is at the moment playing TEXT TWIST, lol

2. Morning mass (at 4am ba? )starts Dec 16 in Philippines. I told my french friends about it, and they wonder how can filipinos keep up the 9 days 4am mass, when its the best time to sleep! In France priests would do that, the people will burn the church, lol. Because here, people doesnt want the kleng bang kleng bang at 4am,very cold weather , who would be happy to go to church? Aber? Even the priest is sleeping on that time no! If Ski yan, the french would be happy to go...
But, masarap daw ang mainit na bibingka dyan,sa Pilipinas, saka puto bungbong?

3. France are crazy over spending this holiday. A consumer has to ask a loan of 3000 euros(200,000 pesos) from a bank to keep up the holiday season. He would suffer 18% interets on top lol! The lending institutions are taking advantage. And on top, he said: "I will be getting silly gifts I dont even like from friends,I am not much attached, and even get drunk going home after the party..."( and might have fight somewhere, or get an accident)

4. My childrens' visa had been confirmed approved (by official letter sent by ANAEM), after I paid them 265€ last Nov. 22,2006. Its been 25 days since, but the *!"#!)&! French Embassy of Manila still do not contact my kids for the issuance of visa. Grrr and grrr and grrr! My daughter send them a fax of the confirmed letter from ANAEM, no answer. Michel and I stayed until 3am one night to call them in Philippines (office time), all you get from the embassy is a recorded message: Bonjour, you may call the visa section between 2- 4 pm for your visa applications, etc etc... Inis to the max Lola nyo!
I emailed them last Friday, with a bit of heavy words," I would like my kids before the end of the year, ano ba!" I wonder I will get any good results!lol

5.I will be off from work on Dec 22 until January 2,2007! Imagine, 2007 soon???!!!
Another year added, and my white hair keeps coming... Saan ba ako pwede maka istorbong bahay ng bloggers ha? Wala ba pwede mag imbita dyan? Sagot ko na:Panetonne
, hehehe!

Questions about PACS

Thursday, December 14, 2006
I was asked via email what is PACS in France. Her( a filipina) boyfriend (a french man) offers her a PACS union, instead of Marriage.I searched the internet. And found it here PACS info
in french language mama mia. How can I explain it to her? Thanks to alta vista babel fish, hehe.

What is a PACS?

The civil pact of solidarity (PACS) is a contract. It is concluded between two physical people to organize their common life. These two people must be major age, (it is impossible to conclude a PACS with three people, or more), of different sex or of the same sex. The people bound by a PACS must have a common (joint) residence even if the residence can possibly be separate (in two apartments).

more PACS info here

Voila, long read, sorry, girls, its not interesting hehe. Especially if not your cup of tea.

PACS for me, is easy way in to be legalized the life together, just sign your contract, easy, same almost benefits from the State of France, and, easy way to get out too when partners cannot stand each other anymore. No LOOOOoong divorce proceedings. Less costly too, as no lawyer to hire to have it dissolve.

But, there's a limit to this law. Some countries do not recognize it, because
1. they consider it as :partners are still single, b.the same sex partners cannot adopt a child, nor undergo eggs implant (for lesbians)c. then in France, under PACS a foriegner cannot be a citizen of France.

But does it matter?

Dear Son...

Tuesday, December 12, 2006
I remember reading this joke year 2003. It just popped up in my head, so I tried to put it back. If you had read it somewhere, correct me na lang. I think this is not complete yet. Add nyo na lng ha? Merci!(thank you)

A filipino father went to America to visit his daughter who gave birth. When the baby was born, he wrote a letter to his son in Philippines about it including his experiences in America.

Dear Son,

Your sister gave birth today. I dont know if it is a boy or a girl, so I cannot tell you if you are now an uncle or an auntie.

I would like to send your requested jacket via post office, but the buttons were too heavy. To avoid paying high mail charges, I took off ALL buttons and send you the jacket. You will find the buttons in the jackets's pocket. You may sew it back when it reaches you.

When I arrived home, today, the door of the house is close. There's a message in the door lock that says: Yale. I've been yelling and yelling, but still the door was close.

Together with this letter, I enclose a check to help you in your schooling. I am very careful and discreet, when sending checks via post office, so I signed the check : Anonymous. Hope you are in good health.

Your father,
Francesco Magtibay

He he,If you are the son, will you still be in good health after recieving the letter?lol

France24news survival tips to expats

Friday, December 08, 2006
I've been browsing France 24 news and one of their features talks about: tips to work in France as an expat and survive it, haha.Lots of expats love France, but to deal with the french its a bit of a struggle... True.Tips are:

1.Speak French
Language is a vital tool in finding your way through the French professional jungle. Not least because the English spoken in many French offices is at best approximate. Making an effort to pronounce a few French words flatters the national ego and the idea of ‘the French cultural exception.’ Give it a whirl and you’ll start to appreciate the French spirit.

2. Understand that public and private are two different things
Do your French colleagues insist on kissing you but still seem cold, distant and unwelcoming? Its like, I am kissing her, but I dont know what's she 's up to this one, lol! Don’t worry it’s nothing personal, they just need a bit of time to trust you. That which constitutes the public sphere (you) is not the same as that which belongs in the private (which is none of your business).

3.Get touchy-feely, but know what it means
Don’t understand male/female relations in the workplace? “Play the seduction game,” suggests international management coach John Gaynard, stressing that flirtation in the workplace is just a game and should not be misinterpreted as anything more. Be relaxed and don’t be afraid to greet colleagues with the French bise (kisses on either cheek). Of course, you need to keep the right distance,(not too close body,oy) but cultivated physical contact while remaining professional is all good.

4. Know your food
While French food is world-renowned, the importance of lunch à la française is less well-known. Taking time to eat with your French colleagues is the key to professional success. It’s over a good meal and a glass or two of wine (though never more, be careful) that the trust essential to professional life is built. Many important decisions are taken at the table.

5. Do things face-to-face
Direct relations work better than indirect ones, personal exchanges better than e-mails. Which brings us onto a second point: if you’re not sure whether to call your colleagues ‘tu’ or ‘vous’ take a look at the hierarchy of your workplace: ‘vous’ for superiors, ‘tu’ for equals.

6. Stay flexible on your working time
Get into a huff if meetings start late? Take a deep breath and chill. Or turn up late. A good formula to remember is ‘start time of meeting + 15 minutes.’ You may also get the impression that, despite all the chat, nobody has done much since the last meeting and that no decisions have been taken at this one: and you’d be right. But don’t forget there’s a culture of consenus to this apparent disorder: it allows decisions to be accepted by everyone even if they’re taken by those up top!

7. Learn the French calendar
The keystone of the professional year comes in September when everybody gets back from their long summer holiday. Pay attention to Stephen Clarke’s words in his novel A Year in the M-r-e(bad shot in english): “Be sure to wrap up your annual project by April 31st ”If not, like the book’s hero, you will be in the M-rd- (bad shot) yourself. In May “there are too many long weekends,” in June “it’s hardly worth working as it’s summer.” And in July and August “Everybody’s relaxing.”

8. Learn about French networking and the grandes écoles
Knowing about France’s elite educational establishments is vital. An X69, for example, is not a skilled pornographic actor but a somebody who left l’école Polytechnique in 1969. If you want to expand your network in France, get to know about the organisations for former students of the grandes écoles – the people here are very well-connected.

9. Don’t make culture a scapegoat.
Not everything bad that happens is down to ‘cultural’ differences. Sometimes it could even be your fault and not that of the French! Learn to give and take.

10. Don’t be scared to ask for help and advice
If despite all this advice the French workplace remains unfathomable don’t hesitate to get help. Ask other ex-pats and make sure your French friends explain how things work. If not there’s always your company’s Human Resources department. Finally there are professional trainers who can help with face-to-face coaching. Here you can discuss any difficult or confusing situations you may have been in. Most trainers offer help for those who’ve been in France for three months or more.

I got many french friends (not serious friends, but known friends because of work and theocracy) and true, its not culture alone, its sometimes how you deal things with them. The most useful tip is to learn their language and have a common understanding that: c'est la vie en France...silliness and incompetence is a no no.

3. Michel picked me up in Monaco, and he said,I forgot to close the window. I said: Arggh, drive quick, or else the "kawatans"(-voleurs- in french) will come back again to steal our pc! And it has been raining the whole day in Cote dAzur, it's traffic! We arrived home, no "kawatans" inviting himself in , seems they dont want to get wet in the rain, they leave us for another day...

Driving lessons in France, my experience

Tuesday, December 05, 2006
I forgot, I thought I posted my driving experience in France. Di pala, so here it is:
Over a year, I passed the CODES OF THE ROAD . A year and two months! And it was in french language.Terrible!!
I have to master: a gauche, a droite, tout droite, agglomeration, sens giratoire, centrifuge, virage, vitesse, feu de brouillard, chaine de niege, arreter, depassement, cedez le passage, priority a droite, priority a gauche, autoroutiere, cours d'eau, lieu dit, charactere prioritaire, sans barriere, avec barriere, redresser, regarder loin!!!, le murs!!! Attention! ! ! une zone pietonne! arrrghhh kaka loka!

After the codes, I learned driving for twenty hours(at least) with an instructor. And if it doesnt satisfy him, he would test me, if Im late on the brake than him,or dont look in all mirrors before taking a turn, etc etc, then ten hours more, and if still not, another set of ten hours, waaaah!

AND ,I will be driving the zigzag roads worse than going up to Bagiuo, up and down the hill, slippery, due to mist or rain, cliff nearby, with pedestrians just pop up anywhere crossing the street, Monaco Police LOOKING LOOKING, tourists everywhere,(why cant they stay in their own country!huhu) and some roads to drive are not only too tight, but nearby the seaside with a cliff down 2000 meters. Only!As a student driver, kaya mo yun? I almost gave up, and asked lolo one time: "Can I just stick to computer than driving a car? its easier... He said: NOooo! GO BACK THERE AND LEARN, that will teach you!!!

The lessons mixed up in my brain:
the language, the road, the wheels, the codes in french, the dark tunnels, and the strict instructor. He was mean AND NASTY and a dictator which he would scream at me in french at the top of his lungs:
WHERE'S THE ROAD HA!? WHERE ARE YOUR HANDS !?? DONT TWIST YOUR ARMS IN THE WHEEL!!! WHICH WAY DO YOU TURN NOW?! LOOK FAR ,NOT ON THE WHEEL, LOOK IN THE MIRRORS BEFORE TURNING!!! *&!]#!*"! (always with "huh"? french accent "hah"!) and he loves screaming for more:
PUT THE WHEEL BACK, (REDRESSER)!VOYEZ, LES MURS ( LOOK AT THE WALLS) QUICK! (VITE) !ITS A LEFT TURN ! (C'EST UNE VIRAGE A GAUCHE!) ARRET! ARRET! Je vous dit ARREEETtttt!!! (Stop, stop,I told you to stopppp!)
I said, I want to stop but the car doesnt want to...He was boiling at 90° heat with white foam at his side lips, haha! Meanwhile I was trembling like a lemon in front of the wheel... wondering if he was a descendant of Hitler! Or Stalin!

What was my reward after 30 hours of driving for 36€ an hour fee?! ! He said: I am not angry at you, but I want you to have discipline on the road when driving AND PASS YOUR LISCENCE ! ( What discipline, its torture! huhu!). Meaning, girls, I have to put "my pride" in my pocket...which is the hardest to do! I was meek to Hitler!(Michel said: unbelievable, YOU?! Meek?)!

Its all hard work what I been through, but I made it.I thanked "Mr Hitler Stalin, I got my french driving permit.Nyah nya nya nya nyahhhh... Please allow me to glorify myself in this post. Its a dream come true to have a driving permit in France, oink! It means independence... hihihi

Christchurch recruiting?

I find this in one of bloggers blog:

"A Christchurch recruitment company...
(If I am a filipino, and wanted to go out of Philippines, I would grab that opportunity. I would trust them because they are: CHRIST CHURCH...hehe)

"About eight months ago, the company hit financial trouble then they close last month!

(Lolo Michel started to laugh!!!!)
I continued reading:

"Local creditors have also missed out, but 229 potential migrants, many from Third World countries, are owed $600,000 in refunds.

Suresh Antil, a pharmacist, 50, who lives just outside New Delhi, in India, was one those caught up in the company failure.
In August, he asked for his money back he paid a $3000 fee of which $2000 was refundable and in October, Lightfoot sent Antil a letter promising to pay by December 15.

However, on November 22, Antil was informed Stu Macann and Associates had ceased trading, and that the new company continuing the business would not honour the refund undertaking.

Ngeeh, nawala??? Yaannnn, gusto nyo pa mag apply? Christchurch yan...
ALL IN THE NAME OF CHRIST, basta lang maka denggoy!Money money nga naman...

Worth blogging from ka uro

I heared the news in France today. A doctor was mad to his patient. The patient confessed that his gf is an HIV positive. The GF said, they still can have sex, because the man has strong immune system, and he can be HIV negative despite she is positive. The man consulted his doctor and the doctor adviced him not to engaged sex with her. They can use condom but if possible "NO SEX WITH HER" !

And after 6months, the man telephoned his doctor, why he was losing weight of 14 kilos. His blood was checked and HE WAS HIV POSITIVE!
No wonder the doctor was mad! He cursed the gf, he wanted to have the family of the man sued her in court, as she knows she is HIV+, she should not act as if she is in good health! The doctor branded her as a murderer. His patient is nearly in AIDS stage. That was quick!

AIE AIE AIE ! If you were to judge, whos fault is it?

Have your blood checked, girls(or boys), as one never knows. I have my
blood check results today sent by Monaco Hospital when they tested my blood before my neck operation. I am alright, jack, lol.
